The LifeStyle Channel today announced that leading Australian architect Peter Maddison has been signed to host Grand Designs Australia.
“This series is our biggest production commitment to-date and the host is incredibly important to the shows success. We did an extensive search to find the person who could best articulate the grandeur of Grand Designs and also the Australianness we are looking for. Someone who understands Australian architecture and our climate, culture and history. We’re thrilled to have secured Peter Maddison.” said Nicole Sheffield, General Manager of The LifeStyle Channel.
“Peter has an easiness about him, he is clearly an experienced architect so you are captivated by his knowledge and ability to express complicated architectural features in simple terms. He’s also not afraid to speak his mind and that honesty is very Australian. It’s going to be a wonderful series!”
Peter Maddison is an award-winning architect and director of Maddison Architects Pty Limited, a practice he started in 1988. With over thirty years experience his projects include a huge range of award-winning residential and commercial work.
"I am really looking forward to hosting Grand Designs Australia for The LifeStyle Channel,” said Peter Maddison. “After a lifetime as a practising architect I am fascinated by what we are going to witness as we travel around Australia filming a rich and diverse range of Australian homeowners. Some will be building their dream-home, some will be living a nightmare. But every one of them will have a unique story and drama."
Grand Designs tells the stories of new homes and perhaps more importantly the people who are building them. The series charts the in-depth process of elaborate design projects undertaken by self-builders - from the initial details of blueprints, to the long and often arduous task of turning the designs into a practical living space.
FremantleMedia Australia is producing the ten-part series for The LifeStyle Channel. The ten homes have been selected and the series is currently in production.
“You don’t get any bigger than Grand Designs, it is certainly the pinnacle of home renovation and building programs. Our selection of houses are outstanding and coupled with Peter's depth of knowledge, this will be quite an insight into the brilliance of home design in Australia and the incredibly ambitious and emotional journeys our homeowners will embark on," said Paul Franklin, Director of Factual Programming, FremantleMedia Australia.
Grand Designs Australia will premiere on The LifeStyle Channel in 2010. The LifeStyle Channel is available on FOXTEL and AUSTAR.
